As the global community reflects on the outcomes of COP29 in Baku, where the urgency of addressing climate change through tangible solutions took center stage, Segway Commercial proudly announces a significant milestone in its sustainability journey. The company has successfully completed the 2024 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for its Apex D110 shared e-scooter. This achievement, verified by TÜV SÜD—an internationally recognized testing and certification organization—highlights Segway’s leadership in reducing the environmental impact of micromobility solutions and advancing the path toward carbon neutrality.

The LCA of the Apex D110 shared e-scooter evaluates its environmental footprint across the “cradle-to-gate” stages, including raw material extraction, manufacturing, and distribution, in accordance with ISO 14040 and 14044 standards. The assessment revealed a total carbon footprint of 368 kg CO2-eq, analyzed across 18 environmental impact categories such as global warming potential, ozone depletion, and particulate matter formation. These findings reinforce Segway’s commitment to designing products that meet both operational needs and environmental standards.

Building on insights gained from the 2023 LCAs for its Max Plus X and Max S90L models, Segway implemented targeted improvements in the D110 shared e-scooter. At the raw material stage, the D110 increases the use of recycled materials, including metals and plastics, compared to its previous model. Similarly, during the distribution stage, Segway has reduced emissions by optimizing packaging solutions. By replacing traditional EPS foam with innovative paper-plastic alternatives and adopting eco-friendly foam materials, Segway has reduced the carbon footprint of transportation associated with the D110 compared to its previous model.

Informed by these LCA findings, Segway is pursuing further sustainability actions across the entire lifecycle of its products. The company is prioritizing the use of greener raw materials, enhancing the proportion of recycled plastics and metals, and integrating renewable energy sources into its manufacturing processes. Alongside these measures, Segway is proactively addressing emissions across its supply chain and refining its environmental management practices to drive continuous improvement.

“As the outcomes of COP29 inspire the global community to accelerate climate action, Segway remains committed to leading the micromobility industry toward a more sustainable future,” said Yao Yao, at Strategic Product Manager of Segway-Ninebot’s Commercial Mobility Business Division. “The Apex D110 shared e-scooter reflects our commitment to combining innovation with environmental responsibility, providing solutions that align with global carbon neutrality goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
