On September 14, 2026, Segway Commercial hosted its first shared micromobility product launch event in Changzhou under the theme “The New Era of Shared Micromobility.” At the event, Segway Commercial introduced TCO 2.0 and a new generation of platform-based products for the next stage of shared micromobility.
The event gathered more than 160 attendees in Changzhou, including representatives from over 60 shared micromobility operators worldwide and media from China and abroad. The event was designed to bring the industry together to share latest thinking and product direction, and deepen dialogue with operators around the future of shared micromobility. It reflected our commitment to working with partners to support the industry’s long-term development.
Cid Wang, CEO and Co-founder of Segway-Ninebot, opened the event by welcoming customers and media from around the world and reaffirming the Group’s focus on shared micromobility.
He also emphasized that customers’ long-term business performance is an important measure of the value created by our products and services, and that the Group’s technology and manufacturing capabilities must ultimately help partners address real operational challenges.
“We provide products, services and solutions. What we want to do is solve these problems together with our partners and help enable better operations,” said Cid. He also reaffirmed Segway-Ninebot’s long-term commitment to shared micromobility and to advancing the industry alongside its partners.
This focus on better operations also provided the context for TCO 2.0, one of the central ideas introduced at the event.
TCO 2.0 starts with total cost of ownership, but looks beyond the purchase price of a vehicle. It brings revenue, operating expenses and hardware investment into the same business framework.
Any savings made at the time of purchase must be considered alongside the costs that follow, including maintenance, spare parts, battery swaps and vehicle downtime. In the same way, improvements that create a better rider experience or increase vehicle availability should be evaluated by the value they generate over the vehicle’s operating life.
As Alan Zhao, General Manager of Segway-Ninebot Commercial Mobility Business Division, explained: “TCO is never just about building a cheaper vehicle. It’s about designing fleets that deliver stronger returns year-over-year.”
This approach also shaped the new generation of platform-based products presented at the event.
Their development began with the needs of three stakeholders: operators, riders and cities. Operators need greater efficiency. Riders need an experience they can rely on. Cities need fleets that are safe and compliant. When these needs are considered together from the beginning, vehicles can fit more naturally into real operating environments.
Creating value through the product, however, is only the beginning. That value also needs to be protected throughout daily operations.
As Jasper Luan, Head of Marketing and Solution Department of Segway-Ninebot Commercial Mobility Business Division, put it: “Product creates value. Lifecycle services protect it.”
Across a large fleet, even one extra disassembly step, one additional spare-part type to manage or added battery-swap waiting time can quickly add up in day-to-day operations. This is why the new generation of products places greater emphasis on maintainability and platform commonality. More details on the new products are coming soon.
In the event’s “One More Thing” segment, Zack Yan, Vice General Manager of Segway-Ninebot Commercial Mobility Business Division, connected these product and service considerations with the broader capabilities required to serve commercial fleets.
“What we have built in shared micromobility is more than a portfolio of vehicles. It is a way how we serve commercial fleets.”
That way of serving fleets brings together product development based on real operating conditions, global supply chain and manufacturing capabilities, fleet support after delivery, a TCO mindset, and continuous improvement through field experience. These capabilities work together throughout the full lifecycle.
That experience is also shaping where we see new opportunities beyond shared mobility. Segway Commercial sees delivery as a market with strong growth potential and is beginning to explore opportunities in the sector. Building on our experience in high-frequency commercial fleet operations, we hope to work closely with customers and partners to understand real delivery needs and shape the opportunity together.
Beyond the launch itself, partners from around the world toured our factory, explored our latest technology up close, and took to the test track to experience the ride for themselves.
“Excitement” was the word that came up most often when partners reflected on the experience. They highlighted how meaningful it was to come together in Changzhou, China—to see Segway’s latest designs, service concepts, and cutting-edge products firsthand, while also having the opportunity to connect with fellow operators from around the world. More than a product launch, it was a shared experience that brought the global micromobility community closer together. The excitement also extended beyond the event itself, with partners already looking forward to coming together again at future Segway events.
Across each part of the event, the message was consistent: work with operators to solve real problems, evaluate value through long-term fleet performance, and support that value with products, services and capabilities across the full lifecycle. This is Segway’s approach to the next stage of shared micromobility.
To every guest who joined us in Changzhou, thank you for making the journey, sharing your experience and bringing such openness to every conversation. Your trust, participation and enthusiasm made this gathering meaningful, and we look forward to continuing the work together.
